Hey Guy's and Gal's,

Well i have this problem, I have Red Algae growing in different spots. It is not much, but i don't uderstand it. I don't feed a lot. Maybe it can be due to just not enough water changes. But every thing seem to be fine, i add like 3 to 4 gals a week of freshwater to my sump. I live in the Palm Spring area where it can get very hot, i actually turn down my heater cause it over heats. I actually turn my heaters down to 70 and it keeps my tank around 78-80 degress. Well any help would be Great. Thanks in advance :D

Is it some type of algae or actualy red cyano? If cyano then the best thing I can suggest from my experience is to find the source of nutrients its using and cut it off, siphon off as much as you can, increase flow to areas its growing in and lastly what seemed to do my cyano in was all the nassarius snails I added. I haven't observed them actually munching it but they keep the sandbed and rock free of leftover food, fish doo doo etc like no other snail. When you get it off the rock/sand try to siphon it out, the nutrients trapped in there can make your nitrates go up if it gets frothed up and back into water column.

Hey Thanks, for the info.

I will try that. Yes i remeber, in my old tank i had those snail's. They did keep the sandbed moving and free of Algae. I have 3 power heads right now, 2 maxi jet 1200 and one catalina can't remeber the speed on it but it is powerful. :D
