After cleaning the impeller on my Mag 9.5 last night I hooked it back up, made sure it was working, and went to bed. I woke up this morning to complete silence in the room that the tank is in... Not good.

To make long story short, the Mag 9 tripped my GFI during the middle of the night. I thought it might be my power strip or something else, so I tried it on a few other outlets. It tripped the GFI on any outlet I plugged it into. Had to rush out, but a new Mag 9.5, and reinstall it. Luckily I did not lose any livestock.

I have not had a chance to call Danner, which will probably be useless anyway. I am worried this might happen again. The pump was about 18 months old. I have a Mag5 just as old still going strong.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Anyone know what happened?? I don't want this to happen again...

I had a mag7 that cracked around the front, where the cover screws on.

I also have a mag12 that's cracked on the cover itself

mag 5 on the reactor

and a mag 9.5 I still use as a return, wife bought 2 weeks ago in an emergency (stupid velocity t3 pumps)

havent had one trip breakers though, they are louder and can be touchy starting up, but overal not bad.

Only problem Mag's we've had to deal with are the 7's. Mag 9.5's too date have been pretty bullet proof with our customers

I installed a mag 9.5 externally on my sump a few months ago and have had no problems with it so far. It is a bit noist, but tolerable.

I run two excessively underserviced mag 9.5's on my tank and have had no problems. Haven't had a single return of any 9.5 i've sold at the shop either. Sometimes stuff happens i suppose...

Just my luck I guess. I went with the Mag because they were supposed to last. I guess I will just not clean my new one.. Maybe it will last longer.

I have 2 mag 9.5s and a spare impeller. One on the skimmer, and one for the return.

The spare impeller is swapped out about every month. I take an impeller out of either the skimmer or return pump, and swap it with one that has been allowed to soak in vinegar. The result is a VERY clean impeller.

It works great for me, and I've had no problems. I try not to over-tighten the face plate screws since I'm into my pumps once a month or so. I've already cracked a faceplate on a mag 5.

I agree they are loud, but I've had no problems with mine.

Update to the Mag issue. I sent my pump back to Danner and had a brand new one at my front door about 1 week later. Very easy, no hassle, warranty exchange. Great customer service. I have to eat my words from the first post. Their customer service is top notch!

Just wanted to give a thumbs up to Val at Danner customer service.
