Peppermint shrimp are cool! I had 2 that didn't touch any aptasia for 2 weeks, then over night, BAM! Every single one was gone!

I believe they are peacefull with other shrimps.

Live Aquaria.com :

First described in 1850, the Peppermint Shrimp is usually found living in the vertical shafts of the reef, sometimes in the core of the pipe sponges. It is very sociable and will live peacefully with almost all reef inhabitants. On occasion, it has been known to eat the Aiptasia anemone (glass anemone) that are found in the live rock of reef aquariums and on the glass. It will not tolerate copper or high levels of nitrates in the aquarium. It will also require iodine for proper molting of its carapace.

Yes they can be aiptasia eating machines, I have 3 in my 46 along with a skunk cleaner. They just sit under the ledges in the rockwork and sway back and forth. They do get into trouble. Mine will try to pull food from my pearl coral and long tentacle anemone. I have heard of them eating pieces of larger anemones but after poking around at the LTA a while they have left him alone. Also if you are getting them get more than one. I have 1 male and 2 females and the females lay eggs constantly which is great free food for your fish and corals.

Spring break I'm thinking about going down to the gulf and collecting a few more - you can find them off parts of the gulf coast near galveston and corpus christi.

Now if I could onlyl find something to eat majano anemones .....

I had a Bennett's Butterfly that loved to eat majano's

I believe it and that's a beautiful butterfly, unfortunately its appetite isn't limited to majano anemiones. It will eat many corals as well. It's also a difficult butterfly to maintain in captivity.

The double-saddle butterfly (Chaetodon ulietensis) is a majano-anemone eating machine and easier to keep in an aquarium. It too will turn to bothering desirable invertebrates when it's finished with the majanos.

Your peppermint looks like a she.
It looks a lot like ghost shrimp carrying eggs.
take a carefull look at the section under the back legs
do those look like round eggs to you?
I dunno the breeding habits of peppermint shrimp, but that would certainly explain why yours is so hungry

Mine took a week to demolish my aiptasia.

Long nose are supposed to be a little more mellow, probably due to smaller mouth. Flame hawks will attack and kill many ornamental shrimp even if they can't swallow them, I have seen people keep them together have also heard of them shredding cleaners on a regular basis.

Saw in another post that there are four different types of peppermint shrimp. Is this true? Anyone have pics of the other types to compare?
Thanks,

Peppermint shrimp at the very least... but I believe most shrimp in general, are hermaphrodites. You only need two of them to get a regular supply of plankton.
