Poll: best reef tank size

If you had a chance to do it again, what size tank would you go with, knowing what you do know, including maintenance, upkeep, natural/artificial filtration, lighting. Also, the thing we all hate, a budget (which is why I chose these tank sizes). :lol:
Tank would be a mixed fish/reef tank, with a variety of corals.

Ditto. I have a 180G and if I were to do it over again I would go with a tank 2' longer (240g or bigger)

I would have voted for my 180 but wasn't an option. Bigger is always better until the bills arrive.

I voted 200g but I am moving to a 300g or more next. I can't do the length, but I am looking at just doing more width instead. If my house was bigger, it would be at least 400g.

Atleast once in my life I'd like to plan and build a 200+gallon reef. Then I could die. That would just be the bomb. Hmmmm . . .

Anyone out there want a large reef but would like to borrow some noodle and elbow grease? (/me can think of one here that could benefit.) Maybe I should post a resume or such?

Here's something else to think about. I'll bet I could put together an aesthetically pleasing 200 gallon earth friendly durable reef and furniture for less than $15/gallon, assuming I had sufficient time. It'd be a poor man's reef for sure, but I don't think anyone would be the wiser. (Which makes me feel silly for spending $50/gallon on a 60 gallon. Errrr)

Considering manageability, I only vote for a 125 gal tank. I have much larger tanks, but I feel than 120-150 is the best size when it comes to moving and regular maintenance.

This is just like in amateur astronomy, everyone wants a telescope somewhat bigger than the one they presently have. We call it "aperture fever."

I have a 120 gal tank, so naturally I voted for a 150.

Wow...the most fun I have had is with my 5 1/2 gallon nano....this is the second nano I have had and I think it is definately the best...no that my SPS are growing like mad and I know that it is possible in a smaller tank, I don't see the need to go 100+...

but then again, a 300+ in the wall tank would be amazing...just seems like it would be a ton of work..

I would vote for a 120 g tank but this is not an option. 2X2X4 is the ideal size, with two 400 W MH.

I agree with Minh. Not too big, but big enough to do some nice things with aquascaping. Won't break the bank either. Ideally you could use (as Minh suggested) a pair of 400w halides, but IMO a pair of 250w (single or double ended) halides would work just as well.

I want something like Sea-World Orlando !! a few thousand gallons. Seriously, I'd be very comfortable with a 75g maybe. Maintnance should be managable with water changes and all. After that I think it would be more of a chore. Or maybe I'm just saying that cause I have a 29g

Well I am moving into a larger house and it has a spare bedroom that butts up to the family room that will be the tank room . Yeah!

I will put in a 200 - 300 built-in gallon tank as soon as possible. Unfortunatley, my extra money will be tied up puttin in new floor tile, new piant, remodel the kitchen, etc, etc. so the tank may have to wait a couple of years. But at least I now have room for something larger than my 75.

I do kinda dread doing a 20% WC on a 300G. I haven't figuired out any easy way to do it yet, but that a problems to solve latter on down the road. :wink: Gee, and what if it ever became a green hair algea cesspool. hmm. Nah!!!! That would never happen to my reef! :lol:

Get the size that YOU want and that YOU can manage.

I'm running just that, but i'd rather have the extra 2 feet of a 180 for aquascaping, maybe a navarchus angel, and my tangs . My 3 foot vlamingi tang just doesn't seem as happy as he used to... :? Any ideas?!
