Would using a kerosene heater in a basement have any effect on a fish tank on the main floor of my home? And how to protect tank if so?

I use a kerosene heater in the same room as my tank and haven't noticed any adverse effects in two years.

Make sure you vent your heater very well. Combustion = CO. Your fish will be fine. Another story for the keeper.

My DAD likes to use those damn things and I tell you what, they make me SICK. I don't know what it is, but I get nauseous whenever I'm around those things. There are also small heaters that use propane tanks. They heat up a ceramic core with a propane flame, and I personally find them to smaller, safer, and more efficient than kerosene. I'll try to find out which hardware carries them, brand name and stuff like that.

Have you made use of insulation on hoses, under, and backside of tank/sump/et al?
