I am trying to fiqure out what type of glass to use under MH lights. I have (3) 400 watt 20K bulbs single end screw in.

I have done a search & have read everything from image perfect glass, tempered glass, to Lexan. Are there any new answers to this question. I am trying to block UVA & UVB.

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

It's been a while since I've taken physics, but I seem to remember that the index of refraction for most glass is sufficient to filter out most UV rays. I guess I'd look for something that's going to be relatively sturdy and relatively clear.

I guess I'm a bit curious as to why you wanted to get glass though? If the bulbs aren't double-ended bulbs, I think the outer envelope of your bulbs should be sufficient and you can probably keep your inhabitants safe w/o extra glass.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thomas
