Will This Design Work?

I have attached a picture. Hopefully it is legible. I just want to know if my theory is correct. I want to slow the flow down through the Fuge. To do that I thought I could plumb the skimmer so that it draws water before the fuge and returns after the fuge. Thereby decreasing the GPH in the fuge by the amount pumped through the skimmer. IE: If I was getting 1200 GPH into the sump from the tank, I then pumped 900 GPH from one end of the sump to the other that would only leave 300 GPH flowing through the fuge. If my picture shows up correctly please look at that to better explain my design.

P.S. Please let me know if you need any better explanation on how this should work.

Ok picture is showing up now. Well I think you are going to compound the problem with that design and seems to me your gonna end up starting an overflow at some point. Worst thing you can do is have a plumbing flaw in your design and flood your living room. Personally your water flow is on TOP of your refugium from your baffles and it should work fine the way it is now. That is my opinion though.

I believe you are going to get a backwash into your refugium. The 900gph is going to start dumping back into the refuge that is only pusing 300 gph. In turn making the refugium even more turbulent.

I'm by no means an engineer of sorts, but this is what I could see happening.

Why are you trying to cut down the flow through the 'fuge anyway? Is it causing problems? You might try putting some LR or just base rock in the refugium to break up the current and have some calmer spots.

how about this. its much more simple and fail proof. the turbulence in the sump is plenty of flow.
