Help on toadstool leather

I recently got a toadstool, and he seems to be doing ok. He changes shapes a few time a day. I geuss this is normal. But there seems to be some sort of slime coming off of him and the two baby toadstools. Is this normal? What should I do to help if is not. Polyps are extending out to feed, especially at night.

Just sounds like nature's taking its course. These guys will slougth off thier mucus (or something like that) every so often, especially after a stressful event (such as being relocated to a new aquarium). My leathers that I have had for years still do it every once in a while. You could bump up circ. a little to help him along, and be sure your skimming. As for the potential offspring, these guys also "drop" little buds once in a while, a form of asexual reproduction, if you will. So CONGRATS!

I'm with wally, My toadstool did awesome for 2 days after I bought him, then secrested slime for a couple more, now he awesome !! Hang in there... check him out... He's actually bigger now...

The mucus is normal. The coral will usually take on a plastic look with an odd sheen then slough its skin. This removes contaminates and such from the corals surface. Appropriate water flow for the species will help. A word of caution. I dont know how it is with the toad stool but many soft corals are noxious and their mucus can cause harm if it lands on a nearby coral. So remove any mucus you see just as a precaution.

I am sure that by now you realize what a nice coral this is. I have a toadstool that is 14" tall and 8" in diameter at the top. one time he got caught in a powerhead and I just pulled him out, a piece about 1" came off and fell behind the rocks I just left it and now (1month later) the baby is sticking its head out from between the rocks. These leathers appear to be sensitive to water quality changes(stick a dirty hand in and he shrinks instantly) but are very hardy,thrive and fragment very well

Toadstools are funny that way, When I first move them around or cut them, they slime up.
Also, I noticed that if the base is able to move at all, it also causes a slime up.
Once I secured the base rock it was attached to, it took off.
Now it's about 15" in diameter and I've begun to frag it out.
The frags do this for about 2 weeks, then they start to look like mamma.

I have quite a few different leather including a toadstool. I have noticed that everytime mine get a slime coat they seem to either get bigger or start to split. It is pretty cool, I just increase the flow and help it along.

I use a turkey baster to gently help sluffing and to remove detritus that may accumulate on it. Gently.
