Okay, so now I got a tank and have a idear of how I am going to set it up. First of all I have 2 175 watt mh lamps and 2 4' VHO lamps. will this be enough light for a 135 gallon tank? dimensions are 72x18x24. Also for this I am going to put in a closed loop to eliminate my dependence on Power heads. Should I put in two of them or one large one? what size of pump should I be using for this. And lastly how big of a circulation pump should I use on this setup. I was thinking a 900 gph one but dunno if this is enough. Thanks.

to answer your questions wee need to know what you are planning on keeping. This will affect lighting, flow, etc.

1)you should have 1 halide for every 2 feeet of tank which in your case you will need 3. also since your tank is 2 feet deep, if you want to keep SPS and clams I would go for at least 250w bulbs.

2)if sps and such you will need about 18-20x tank turnover or about 2700gph. Closed loops are an excellent idea. www.marinedepot.com has flow charts you can look at to see what gph you will get at what height with which pump. i would go with two...one high and one low.

On a 135g... I would go with an ampmaster 3000. These are good pumps that will cause you very little to no problems with maint... Use union fittings when plumbing and be sure you have shut-offs (ball valves) if you plan on turning down the flow then use a gate valve..

other than that have fun...

other good pumps

genx/ or mak4

sen series or the ocean runner.

all of which can be plumbed external.
