I am going to be setting up a new tank because I will be moving soon. I am attempting to set up a 20 gallon long while I break down my 65g. I am thinking about purchasing a Bak Pak, but I don't know which one to purchase. I will have live rock and an Emperor filter running. If I get the BP IIR, can I place a heater in the unit or can I only do it on the BP II? The heater does not have to necessarily go in the BP, but it would be nice to have it out of sight.

I have the 2R and I like it alot. The only thing that I dont use in it is the sponge around the return. It will get clogged pretty fast. I also got the bubbletrap and surface overflow box for it. I had a big snail climb into the return and had a small flood.

The 2R wou should be able to put a small heater in.

do yourself a favor and don't get either. I would go with the Remora. It is a better hang on skimmer.

I have the BakPak II with the internal bubble trap on my 20H. It still has room to put a 50w VisiTherm heater inside the trap side.

I have the original bakpak and I have the heater in it. Good to get the heater out of the tank - looks better, and I don't have to reach behind the rockwork all the time to flip snails anymore. :D

I think the BakPakII is the one that will take a heater in the second chamber.

One thing though, replace the Rio with a maxijet and the extra venturi kit -much better system. I use the old Rio to mix water now...
