My orange shoulder tang looks like it has some sort of parasite/disease - I'm really not sure. The pic doesn't show it too well, but there are white specks at the center of the orange flecks... rhyme. There are also white specks elsewhere, not neccesarily inside the orange specs. Any ideas what this is? The pic doesn't seem to be working for people... try this link http://www.geocities.com/gaweinrod/orangeshoulder.html

Ich?

Esp. with that quick a spread. Tangs are known for getting ich relatively easily, esp. if stressed.

Do a search under garlic extract and hyposalinity.
You have a choice as to which you prefer. But, you need to deal with it now.

Nah I know what Ich is, I was just messing around. I don't know the best ways to treat it in a reef tank however. Quarantining all of my fish is not a feasible option in my house. I was talking to Vitz on IRC and he suggested keeping very close tabs on all stress factors and soaking all food in garlic first. I feed flake and frozen mysis (to my tubastrea) but want to make sure that the tubastrea wouldn't mind the garlic. Vitz thinks that it is ich, and that the orange spots are scars. The picture didn't show it too well, but there are lots more white spots on the fish's head and body. Are there any other steps that you would recommend if this is ich?

This is a 105 reef - I just checked the tang today and he's got lots of brownish spots on him, I'm guessing that the orange spots just turned darker...

Got any cleaner shrimp in your tank? Tangs like to be cleaned... my hippo used to park itself in front of the cleaners at least twice a day.

One problem though, cleaners won't work if you have any fish in there who'll snack on them :(

Yeah I've got two cleaners, they occasionally clean the fish - but this tang doesn't seem to be wanting much attention. Recently it's been 'diving' and scratching it's belly on the sand... itch the ich!
