I am setting up a 28 gallon reef and I an planning to make a stand for this that will contain a fuge. I already have a 10gallon at my fathers house, but will this be enough for my remora and my heater? And will this provide enough bio filtration?
Well since it appears as if you're installing a skimmer as well, a 10g should suffice. If you ever intend to go w/ strictly "biological" filtration as I did, a 10g wll be minimal(depending upon "load" of course). I'd say that if you can go with a 20g...do it. This way you'll be left with more options in the future if need be. JMO.
Will there be enough rood in my fuge for the remora and the heater or should I put the heater inside of the remora to save space. I think that I will use the 10 gallon untill I can find a used 20 gallon. That is unless anyone convices me otherwise. Does anyone have an suggestions on the outlet from the main tank and the return pump? I am not sure if I want to go ported or use an overflow box? Also, where can I go to get my tank ported? or can i do this myself? Where to get bulkheads or overflow box? Pump reccomendations?
Remember that I am a newbee and this is my first tank...Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
get the largets you can fit. this will help you out if you ever decide to add things like a calcuim reactor or larger skimmer and such, a new 20gal shouldent run you more than $25. i have some pics that show how my overflow box and return are set up. e-mail me if you want too see them or i can post them here if ya really wnt to see them. if its just a sump you can run what ever current your overflow box can handle which is typically 700 gph or so if you wnt to make it a refugium try 500gph or less a mag 5 or 6 will do the job nicely and is cheap.
since i can only do 3 at a time heres the rest. this was more for the idea of how to plumb it but you can see the dsb and area for the plants in the 4th pic ans you can see the huge wet/dry in the 3rd pic most people dont like wet/dry's but im using it to fuel the plant growth.
