This weekend's travel hockey schedule for my son brings me to Houston, TX. Wondering what LFS stores there might be in Houston that I should visit. I always try to see LFS in the towns I visit and get the opportunity to bring back quality livestock. Thanks in advance.

I'm hardly an authority any more as I have been out of the game for over a year now, but the Fish Ranch out on 59S is pretty good and you should make an effort to get by and see the tanks at Village Tropical Fish off of Shepard real near 59S even though it's only freshwater there they have a plant tank in there that will rival any plant tank you've ever seen, anywhere! I mean books, magazines anything anywhere! It will make you want to do a plant tank that's for sure!

Finally if you're feeling adventurous go to City Pet on Beechnut at Beltway 8 again in the SW side of town. This place is of questionable quality sometimes, but they often get things that are exotic and different, it's real hit and miss though. If you make it to Fish ranch you might as well go to City Pet as it's only another 5 minutes down the freeway. Come to think of it these are all in line down the Southwest freeway.(59)

Happy Hunting!

I had a friend who worked at City Pets and it is more than sketch. Really kind of scary actually. You get the feeling that with a "wink and nod" you can find out what sort of questionable things they have in the back room. During my last visit, I saw a sad group of feather stars, and a harlequin sweetlips...two animals I don't like to see in the trade at all.

I am biased though. I worked at Aquarium World at 290/Hollister. (friend mentioned above still there). Now before everyone starts, yes, it is more expensive than some other stores (they had to pay to keep me on staff :D ). But it is certainly at least worth a look around. New salt stock arrives on Tuesday, but fish are not for sale until Wednesday. Thursday probably the best overall day to visit (freshwater stock arrive Wednesday).

Over on the west side of town you can find FishLand (on Westheimer before Eldridge...there is a big Chinese buffet and an Indian buffet (both good) in the same shopping center (Windchimes Center?).

T and T is on Highway 6 at...hmmm...bellaire, beechnut? Gosh, which one is it that you can drive down and hit a bunch, starting with FishRanch--->Global--->another one at synott or something---> T and T. I think Minh knows if he stops in on this thread.
