Hi shr00m!

I'm sure you won't have to wait long before someone nearby pops up. We appear to have the same problem acquiring this sand out here in California, too. Good luck!

I live in springdale and have not seen it here....I was at my dads house the other day and noticed a bag or 2 of tropical play sand.....but didnt look any closer at it. I had already given up on finding and went with aragonite..........high dollar let me tell ya.
I will check out the bags at his house today or tomorrow and let 'cha know if it is usuable....right color and such.
the quikrete is very dark and too large grain size i think

I lived in Searcy and looked everywhere for it and never found it. I drove all over the state for work and whenever I was in a new area I always stopped to check and see if it was there with no success..

its the brown type... it says its prewashed sterile playsand... normal type that you find in a kids play thing... if the only thing this is going to affect is the color then i dont care... say i add a bag of CC to my 4 inch sand bed if i use the brown stuff wouldnt that help the buffering properties, id love to find the white stuff if possible but if theres really not that much difference i dont care....

I put a mix in my 100 of the argonite sand from the LFS and quikrette playsand from HD the playsand is working its way to the bottom of the bed and the white argonite is going to the top. I havent seen any problems with water stability or algae growth but its hasnt been in very long so far I am happy with it.

www.purearagonite.com. Less risk of contamination than play sand from a hardware store.

Has anyone seen any of the new Carib Sea reptile sand? It's supposed to be very cheap, and I would imagine it comes from the same place as their reef sands. I'm expecting some in the store soon, but don't know anything else about it.

Southdown has been re labeled, it now is called Tropical Playsand from the Carribean. Most Home Depots carry it.

Sean, I beg to differ. I have visited 8 Home Depots in my area of the country. I have not found it yet. In fact, I have asked friends in cities within 150 miles to look fot it for me... they also had no luck.
When I reuested that Home Depot order a Pallet of it, and I would take the whole thing, they turned me down.
I bit the bullet and spent the $45 for a 30 pound bag.
Oh well!
