I was going through my sump this morning (about a 30gal mud filter) when i discovered a fish. More to the point a bangaii cardinal. He is about 1/2". My question is how did he get there? I had a pair although one has since disappeared. I know they breed and the only thing I can thin of is that one of the fry must have gone through the overflow ( a 75gal oceanic reef tank) and even though there is a foam filter, he must have been small enough to have gone though a hole. He's now about 1/2" so I don't know how long he's been in there :) Quite interesting what you find in the sump.

Wow! Are you sure it's not one of the parents? You must have a healthy tank to raise one without even knowing it! Sorry to jack your thread, but I had a similar thing happen to a tank. I recently found a 1 inch snail in a fish only tank, with fake corals and dead lava rock as decorations. It somehow managed to survive a trigger and puffer as well. I do the maintenance and I know for sure that it wasn't introduced on purpose, and the only living things added were fish. I'm guessing a snail larvae hitchhiked in the shipping water with a fish, and grew up in the tank.

It's amazing what you find. The parents or now parent is close to 2 inches. This one is only about 1/2". My first though was it was the missing one but that would be even more amazing.

I've heard of people finding baby banggais in their overflows but never in the sump. I'm glad your hard work at breeding marine fish has finally paid off.

Maybe it IS the missing parent after all and 1 and 1/2 inches of it got filtered out going thru the sponge! 8O
