just wondering what people are using to prevent water from siphoning back into their sump. i have an old rubber flap check valve in mine, but i think it's not working anymore and would like to get a new one that is more reliable. the only check valves that i can find at the local hardware store are the spring loaded kind. i was told those can rust up and malfunction later on. any advise on what to use would be appreciated. thanks

I am not a big fan of check valves, they all tend to go bad, usually at the worst time. Many people simply drill a couple of anti siphon holes in their return, just below the water line.

I don't use a check valve either. I drilled a couple of anti siphon holes in the return pipe also.

I drilled them too large the first time and had to re plumb the return.

I have 2 - 1/8" holes in my 1" return. The only maintenance I perform related to them is to stick a toothpick in each hole once a week to make sure they don't get plugged up.

Have fun

I don't use check valves either. I had one on my pool that turned nasty when it malfunctioned. It's gone too. Nor have I drilled holes in my returns. As my returns are just below the water surface, the water just siphons back into the sump which easily holds the siphoned water.
