What can I get that will get rid of or eat green hair algae on my sand bed? It is not on the rocks just the sand. Thanks.

Get a good skimmer. Worked for me. I tried crabs and blennies with no luck.

Use RO water only.

I agree w/ Rob_Reef_Keeper. You want to attack the source of the problem, not the result of the problem. A skimmer would help remove some of the dissolved organics in the water that are causing the algea. If you already have a skimmer, try feeding less, water changes, etc. Do you have a DSB? Good luck and be patient! Algea problems rarely go away overnight! You can always try the snails/hermies/tangs/blennies/etc. to try and speed up the process, but make sure you try to find the source of the problem so that it doesn't just come back! 8)

I would love to try a blennie and such but I only have a ten gallon and therfore not enough room for them. I have a 3" sandbed and that is where my algae is growing. I have a red legged hermit and 4 very small blue legged hermits. I suppose I could try a skimmer I only have a regular filter on it right now. I have been doing weekly water changes, but I will continue. Thanks for the suggestions.

I had the same problem with the green stuff overgrowing my sand. I got a starfish which burrows just under the sand and keeps it clear.

The problem I had was one was not enough, so I brought another and all that happens now is one hitches a ride on the others back!

I'm not sure if one's just lazy or they're shaggin! They're not very colourful but do a great job.

Do you know what kind of star it is? I woried that a 10 gallon is way to small for anything like that.
