Oooooo, this should be interesting. I'll put in my guess tomorrow. If it's possible, I suggest you postpone giving the answer away until Monday evening. People, for strange reasons, seem to do non-reefing activities during the weekend 8O Yeah, sacrilegious I know ;)

Most numerous fish based on import export data is not going to reflect the most numerous fish who have managed to survive in people's tanks but I will take a shot anyway.

Blue devil, royal gramma, ocellaris and tomato (frenatus and melanopus)clowns, yellow tang, flame hawk, flame angel, coral beauty, mandarins, purple/bicolor/diadema pseudochromis and yellow watchman gobies.

Kalkbreath,

Data includes invoicing from exporters, importers and wholesalers internationally. What you are calling 'interstate' (ie Hawaii to mainland USA, or Florida etc.) sales do count.

Just consider all fishes and make your guesses.

CLARIFICATION:

This quiz uses actual species names. Many people have guessed using family or subfamily names. A family name such as 'damsels' covers over 300 species, and even includes the anemonefishes (clownfish). You are welcome to use common names of the fishes. The answers will come with a common and scientific name.

Some of you might want to put your thinking caps back on with this new clarification. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough originally.

The sales count but ,who is doing the counting? Fish and Wildlife does not keep track of the interstate fish sales..........Can we ask who comprized the data? or would that spoil the prize {sur}?

I would think the three stripe, domino, yellow tail, and blue damsels would have to be on there. Ocellaris clowns are far more common than percula clowns, at least out here. Frenatus and clarkii clowns are also very common. Picasso triggers, maybe? Mandarin dragonets. Yellow tangs. Red firefish.
