I currently have a 110 reef tank, but i'm cycling a 30 hex for my g/f at this time. i've asked everyone where i get my salt water supplies, evern good customers that actually KNOW what they're talking about and no one knows the answer. The 30 hex that i'm cycling for my tank is for seahorses, and i was going to put tree sponge in there for them to hang on to. can i put the sponges in while the tank is cycling...PLEASE HELP!

Thanks everyone!

NO! Don't put something like a sponge in there to cycle.

I want you to go right to http://www.seahorse.org and start asking them questions, questions, questions. Most seahorses are not exactly "reef residents", more often found in quiet lagoons and beds of sea grasses. I know very little about them, but they can be difficult to the uninitiated. Look for fourhand there, very knowledgable young man. You should also go to http://www.wetwebmedia.com and http://www.wetwebfotos.com/talk/ there is a forum dedicated to seahorses. I'm not answering FAQ's there yet (gotta get set up with Frontpage), and I'm not the gal for the tough seahorse queries, but there are several folks, fourhand again, who know a LOT. And they're a good group of folks (I have a fondness for Fenner and crew :) ).

I'll never let a friend post under my account again.

:D

I've already given him this information, and he went and asked here anyway.

:?

Peace,

I hope that your g/f knows that that tank will have to be a species tank...no other fish except maybe pipefish or trumpet fish. Any other fish will eat too quickly and will eat all of the food before the seahorse will be able to stalk the prey food and eat it. Seahorses are very slow, leisurely feeders and can take several minutes to start feeding after the food has been introduced to the tank.

I love seahorse tanks, but they really are not for beginners. JMO
