Well, I can tell you that I know of the two species commonly referred to as Longnose--F. longirostrus, and F. flavissimus only. The F. longirostrus has the longer nose of the two, to distinguish. A picture for comparison is always helpful.

Both appear to be decent choices of Hawai'ian butterfly for reef tanks, if I recollect correctly the former (F. longirostrus) gets bigger. They seem to generally be alright for reef systems, but you should always keep a close eye.

Their long noses are typically used to pick small invertebrates in reef crevices, and be aware that they may display some "odd" behavior--spitting and hanging upside down (much like a bat, eh?). Offer them a good variety of foods, especially a good variety of small meaty foods. Be sure that the food offered them is of suitably small size.

Try a Google or Dogpile search (I'm learning there are joys to be had with a nice big Dogpile....search) for more information, and don't forget our library--> http://www.reefs.org/library

Oh no! Does this mean you can't make sense of the classifieds? :lol:

prf=proof--as in proofreader.
edt=edit--as in editor.
aqst=aquarist.
pub=public.
aqm=aquarium.
trd=trade.
exp=experience.

I was shooting for concise and taking up little space. I guess it is a bit confusing, eh?

Dan,

Don't forget Heniochus diphruetes ( bannerfish) as a reef safe butterflyfish.

I have also had good luck in the past with the lemon (or milletseed) butterflyfish.

Sea,
Proofreader/editor doesn't have a lot to do with public aquariums. Trade experience with what? The import/export business with the Columbians is profitable but risky.

Cat,
2x 4 stripes, 1 domino, 1 yellow tail blue, and 1 green chromis. So far the domino thinks he's toughest until the stripes get together and tag team his little punk butt. The y/t and chromis stay out of the way and ignore everyone else.
