I am interested in getting one of these guys, but wonder if they will decimate my fanworm population. I have quite a lot of tiny fanworms all over the rocks and don't think I want to lose them...

Nope, they don't touch fan worms whatsoever. They are very timid, however, and may be bullied by other wrasses, clownfish, or any aggressive species. I recommend P.oscellatus only in tanks with more placid tankmates. They are gorgeous and peaceful. Truly perfect reef fish.

Dan:
I have had mine for about 6 months...it doesn't bother any of the soft corals in the tank...doesn't seem to be a big sandbed picker either.

Mine however, is quite aggressive (at least towards some fish). It is in a 125 with a blank tang, goldflake angel, lemopeel angel, pair of fire clowns (in BTAs), radiant wrasse, zebra moray, and a pair of starry dragonets ("red scooter blennies"). It does not seem to be the least bit intimidated by any of the larger fish.

There used to be Lubbock's fairy wrasse, which the mystery "shredded". The mystery was the last fish added to the tank..at first it seemed timid, but within a week had begun the attack on the Lubbocks (which had been in the tank over a year). He seems to have turned his attention to the male dragonet...so far, just posturing, but I am wondering if I'll have to ultimately move one of them.

Aggressive eater and beautiful. My experience with my sample of 1. (LA: Sorry no pic yet.)
