I have a 100 gpd unit by air water and ice and was wondering when to change the DI. Should I wait until the whole thing has changed color or what? Mine has turned color except for about 2 inches at the top. Should I change it or can I get 30 more gallons out of it for my next water change.

As long as the output of the DI is acceptable, continue to use it. Test it with a TDS or conductivity meter, for example.
If you are concerned, another option is to add an addtional DI stage after the last DI to make sure all the ions are absorbed by the second stage.

I dont mean to be rude or anything but can someone just answer my question,I know I need to buy a TDS meter but that doesnt help me right now its 11:30pm in FL. Should I make the 30 gal of water or is the DI to exausted to do that. When you DI has changed color all but about 1-2 inches can you make 30 more gal. I have a 100 gph unit. Thanks
Its really impossible to answer that question. The problem is when DI resin is exhausted it begins to leach disolved solids back into the water.You could actually be doing more bad than good. You really need a TDS meter. I wouldn't use color changing resin for a replacement as it has thngs in it that cause the color change and there is the possibility that it also could leach into the water. DI resin is rated for x number of PPM. It all depends on the quality of your raw water, the rejection rate of your RO unit and how many gallons you have run through it. 30 gallons probably wouldn't make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things.
I just recently replaced my membrane and all the filters. My unit is 3 years old and rated at 75 GPD, my raw water averages 540 ppm and I really didn't know what my final water quality was. After buying a TDS meter I found my rejection rate was only 87% still leaving me with something like 70ppm TDS. Still better than the original but had lots of nutrients in it for algae to feed on. With my new membrane from AquaticEcoSystems my water is now 14ppm, a vast improvement. I have since added a DI cartridge and TDS is still at zero. My hair algae is going away and my corals all look better. If not for the TDS meter I would not know any different since my RO manufacturer says the membrane should last 3 to 5 years with regular prefilter replacements which I have done. For drinking water it is probably great but for a reef it left a lot to be desired.
