Can mushrooms touch each other? For example can I place green metallics beside my red shrooms and not worry about any damage if they grow together?

Nah, I think when you start putting different types of coral close together you are asking for trouble.

Some things can touch each other fine, but I would play it safe whe you first introduce something to your tanks, and give them room.

I am totally supprised at what can be close and what cannot. Rigth now I have some green star polyps that are stinging some anthelia that spread to close, but I also have some montipora digitata that has zoanthids nestled right up next to it, they have grown that way and been like that for at least a year.

You can get away with crowding mushrooms, but I wouldn't try it with anything else.

For anyone else who is curious, I didn't believe that mulberry actually lived in a town called coralville, Iowa. But, I looked it up on mapquest and low and behold it was there. :D

Yeah, I have always placed my corals pretty far apart because I didn't want them stinging each other. But I didn't know if the mushrooms would harm each other or not and I am pretty much out of room and I know shrooms grow pretty fast and I wanted to try to place them together and let them mix.

Don't worry, if you have shrooms, they will be close to everything in a while.

I've had my reds for about 4 months now and I have found them every where. Behind rocks, on the back of my tank, and I wasn't going to add anymore, but seen the green metallics in LFS for $30 and had to have them.

I have metallic green hairy and smooth red mushrooms and they fight. The red where touching the greens get very distorted looking. The greens where touching the reds are very swollen. Seems to be a stale mate at best. Neither actually dies. They've been going at it for years.

Where reds and blues grow I see no ill effects other then they try to overlap and shade each other. No physical signs of distress.
