You know, I fully expected to have to add new refrigerant, but in 5+ years, I have not yet changed it on my 1/3 hp Aqualogic. It's still chilling fine. I definitely would like to hear more responses though.
hi.
Most chiller use Feon, and it is a highly regulated chemical that you can not really can buy it legally unless you use black market. DIY will be not possible for most people.
If the chiller appearantly runs fine, but it just can't used to keep up with normal thermo load, it is possible that it is low on Feon. Make sure the flow is not restriced, since a dead turbo snail can block the feeding pump and make it not work well. Etc..
most companies stopped using freon years ago. they now us the r134 or whatever refrigerant...
i know they stopped using freon in cars in the early 90's. i think you have to have the thing professionaly serviced anyway. if u do it yourself you void the warranty...
mine is an aquamedic it uses the freon alternative... i was told it would have to be service after 6 yrs or so.... by that time i wont need it.... will have a bigger tank..
the chiller is an Aqualogic 2 years old . it seem's to keep up with the heat it just does not bring the temrature down even with all the halides off.lt's . and as always the warranty just exipred and it starts to act up.
LA-Lawman is rigth they now use R134 refrigerant and the conections look just like that of a car. I have some R134 in the garage I'm just trying to work up the nerve to charge it my self LOL.
