Skimmer Issues (Pump Problems Really)

I have a skimmer running off a Rio 2100 at the moment. Or at least it used to be....

I don't know if it is the pump, or the airline, or what, but the draw on the H20 is not great, and there is no air in the tower AT ALL!!!!

If I am going to replace the pump for this skimmer, what would be the recommended pump?

If it's a Rio, it's probably the pump's fault I'd inspect the impeller to make sure nothing is stuck. Better yet, replace it with a Sedra 5000 or a Eheim 1060.

What type of skimmer? If it use a pump, it is probably a venturi-type. Check the venturi valve and make sure it is clean.

It is venturi....

The air valve is spotless....

I soaked it in HOT water to be sure....

I had a similar problem when I hard piped my PM venturi skimmer with an external pump. I am not sure what your set-up is, but the venturi fitting needs to have flow through it in a certain direction. I had mine backwards after I re-plumbed, and had all sorts of problems. I don't know exactly what your set up is, but you might have the same problem. Hope this helps.

I have a CPR SR6 skimmer that came with a Rio and modified it with a MAG .
I tried several different size pumps and am now using a Mag 18 .
