Orange centapeds looking things!!!help

I have spotted some orange, blue and white but mostly orange worm/centaped looking things. About half an inch long. Does anyone know what they could be? Are they harmful? I'm very new to this hobby.

Chet, my guess offhand is they are some kind of bristleworm. Usually the type finding their way into our tanks are harmless and are beneficial scavengers. Check out the excellent hitchhiker guide on this site and see if they match what you have.

Allow me to 2nd Techno's post...definitely sounds like a bristleworm. and, yes, they're generally quite beneficial to your tanks seeing how they're detrivores...Heck! You should see the sucker I've got in my 72g. Sucker's probably a good foot long! :)

Yup, I'll 3rd what the others have said--almost definitely bristleworms.

When I moved my 110 a couple years ago I was pulling the last pieces of LR out of the sandbed and cripes, there was a bristleworm in one of them that HAD to be at least 10" or so and thicker than a hotdog. 8O Scared the crap out of me when I lifted the rock of that murky, stirred up water and that thing went flopping over my hand. I must've screamed like a little girl. :lol:

Wow, another Chet in the world...thought I was the only one. I browse this site occasionally, but I am know as Chet-Tonja on other boards. Tonja being my wife. I agree with the others and think it is probably a bristle worm.

The really hard part was not dropping an 8lb chunk of liverock about 18" onto the glass bottom of the tank. 8O :?
