Just wanted to show my new MH and hood off :)

I've been on VHO for 3 years, but I have to say now that I experienced MH, I wouldn't want to go back. 8)

Thx.
I don't want to take credit for the design though, I copied it from http://www.cnidarianreef.com/
But I did do my own dimensions in Visio 2002.

I'm looking to add some SPS frags this week. Have a couple sources lined up in my area already.

Now I'm looking into building my own Kalk reactor  With 4 kids I can't believe I got the hood done in 2 weeks. Maybe I can get the Kalk reactor done in 1 week

Nice looking hood! What kind of reflector is that and where did you get it? It almost looks like a long "Spider" reflector, or a few short ones set end to end.

Also, how is the noise from those fans?

Thanks Dt.
The reflector is actually 2 - 24" parallel reflectors by PFO. I like the looks of spider lights but the PFO also allows me to mount 2 vho bulbs as well.

The fans are 4" fans from the local Radio Shack. They are AC fans that put out 64cfm at only 32db. They may not push out the most air like some 4" fans do but they are definately the quietest. And although still pretty much winter here (was 65F though today) my tank temp has not risen even 1 degree. :)

Syris,

Just curious why you went with 10,000k and VHO acentics. Did you try the 14,000k bulbs with no acentics? Reason for my questions is I am getting ready to swith from VHO to MH myself.

mountain,

I read and read before deciding on what bulb and wattage I wanted. I went with 175w because the bulbs are cheaper, less heat, and I feel its adeguate lighting to still have a succesful SPS tank on a 75g. Mostly inspired by PlayFair's 120g (featured Tank of the Month) using 175watters.

As for the 10k bulbs, I originally was going to go with Iwaski 65k but after researching, I heard and seen a lot of pics of them being yellow. So completely for asthetics I went with Ushio 10k (I have the PFO ballast and have heard of a lot of problems using AB 10k not firing)
I have a slightly green tint when running them alone (heard they whiten up after 40+hrs burn in, mine only have 16hrs on them). With my VHO actinic on though it is a nice crisp, clear, light with a touch of blue. Enough to flourescent the corals a bit. The picture I posted does not give it justice.

As for the 14ks I never tried them and I believe that CoralLife is the only manufacturer to make a 175w 14k bulb. But I may be wrong.
