Hi all. My Purple Tang is sick. One of his eyes is all cloudy and it looks a bit swolen. Anyone know what this is or what I can do to help him out. Thanks.
Is it just the eyes? If it is, there's probably not much to be concerned about. Cloudy, swollen eyes more often then not are symptoms of physical injury that usually heal on its own. It could be a bacterial infection, and if that's the case it's best to set up a hospital tank and move the tang there to treat with broad spectrum antibiotics. But personally i'd get it at least a week to see how it fares on its own. If it doesn't get worse, chances are it'll get better.
Thanks for the reply Len. I noticed it a few weeks ago and just figured it would go away. Today it seems to be quite bad. His whole eye is cloudy and swolen like I said. Before it was just a little cloudy spot. If I were to treat him with something what would I us?
Try erythromycin or neomycin (available by several feed medication makers under different names). Shop our sponsors like www.petwarehouse.com and they'll have them for sure. Don't medicate in the tank if it's a reef.
