Well? I don't want to go any lower because I have some inverts in the tank/iinverts like higher salt levels. The fish I am worried about is a butterfly and I don't want to take any chances. Thanks for any suggestions! :D

It's not low enough to kill cryptocaryon...........but just low enough to kill most of your inverts

PLEASE.........return the sg to NSW levels, and remove the fish to treat in a QT under the correct Salinity ( 14ppt, or 1.009 sg at 80 degrees)

Whew! Good catch, John!

fishfanatic, what books have you? Actually, it can much less of a swing than that to kill many inverts, especially animals like sea stars.

I know many folks don't use/believe in the use of quarantine procedures, but I will always argue in their favor. It's just not worth introducing problems that range from Cryptocaryon/Amyloodinium (see here for Amyloodinium and here for Cryptocaryon information) to the tiniest of nudibranchs that will eat the hell out of many corals (yep!). Once nuisance creatures like these become established in your main system, they're almost impossible to completely get rid of. BUT! Use your q/t system--which, by the way, doesn't have to even be a fish tank, per se--and you will save yourself MANY headaches in the future.
