"Natural Reef Aquariums: Simplified Approaches to Creating Living Saltwater Microcosms" by John H. Tullock

This book was highly recommended to me by a friend in the hobby, so I picked it up. It appealed to me, as my experiences with FW planted aquariums have been highly successful once I adopted the natural approach over the technology-based approach. I'm able to raise happy fish and plants by paying more attention to the natural components of the ecosystem rather than having wacky filters and lost of chemical doses every day. In fact, I never fertilize it. Don't need to. Hehe.

I found this book very informative, however I don't have any experience to compare it against. As you may have noticed from my other posts, I'm still learning how to do stuff right before I get my first reef aquarium up and running.

Has anyone else here read/bought this book, and what did you think?

Thanks for sharing

This was the first book I bought before getting into this hobby. After reading this easy, step by step book, i was completely confident that I could handle a saltwater reef aquarium. This book is very basic however, and I highly recommend that you follow up and get The Reef Aquarium Volume 1, A Comprehensive Guide to the Identification and Care of Tropical Marine Invertabrates, by Charles Delbeck and Julian Sprung. This book is jammed packed with much more detailed information.

Excellent book for the beginner though intermediate. I still use it for reference although sprung's and Delbeek's book is more informative and comprehensive. I like Borneman's book best, though.

This was one of my first reef aquarium books. It's up to date and has lot's of useful information about planning and maintaining a reef tank. It doesn't get too advanced, which is good for the beginner.

I liked the sections on replicating different biotopes - something I apsire to but ended up doing a mishmash tank.

It's definitely a very good "motivational" book - it gets you excited about getting into the hobby.
