thanks for the input guys. I was also looking at the remora pro. I have heard good things about the back pak 2 also. decisions, decisions. Well, I have it narrowed down anyway..............
Red Sea skimmers, IMHP, worked the best for my useage. I had all Berlin systems, so what worked for me may not work as well for you either, though! I believe you should "fit" the skimmer to the system you have. In other words, buy a skimmer that will fit the needs of a specific system.
Do your homework and look at ALL of the brands on the market today, then ask questions, as you already are, then make your decision based upon self confidence, knowledge, cost effectiveness and last but not least, (lol) reliability and dependability. (not knowing what type of system you have or what equipment you already have, at this point..)
Aquadoc-
I have a Red Sea Berlin Turbo on my 100, impossible to keep it from returning bubbles into the tank. I also have a Remora Pro on the same tank, no bubbles at all.
I had a remora pro with a mag 3 running on my 90g before I moved and had to break it down. I added the skimmer box and was really happy with the performance. Rarely required adjusting and cleaning, and the customer service from AquaC is great.
Remora pro all the way, have no complaints at all and have had it almost a year now on a fully stocked 75 reef. Have used the cpr's and some of the red sea stuff(crap). IMO they all are dwarfed by the performance of the Remora, and Remora Pro. Remora's are probably the best deal for your buck while they may not be the supreme skimmer they're damn close. Aqau medic and a few other expensive name brand skimmers are definetly quality products as well.
I replaced my Super reef devil (outfitted with a mag9.5) with a Euroreef, and I love it. My Bakpak is on my small tank in the kitchen. The bakpak was a heartbreaker, IMHO. It works a bit better with a powerful airpump (luft pump) and an airstone, but alone it was very disappointing.
As for the Euroreef, it's a real performer right out of the box. Very nice skimmer.
I posted these graphics a while back doc. Here they are again. its 95 gallons. 2 inch bed in 10 gal. and 3 inch bed in 30 gal. and 3 inch bed in 55 gal. with alot of live rock in 30 and 55. As I can see some people have their own opinion and live by what they say. I have it set up and circulating. But all I have running is a wet dry. Oh yeah I used play sand seeded with live sand.
I have a AquaC Remora...Number one as far as I am concerned...and another thing, I have 55 gal FOWLR, and I like that diagram...I think I might do something like that. It will get my skimmer outta there and maybe even my overflow box for my wet/dry.
Thanks!
