Just wanted to let the locals know that Home Depot Beechmont @ 520 Ohio Pike Cincinnati OH 45255 (513)-688-1654 has 5-6 pallets of Southdown, at the regular 4.99 price. I picked up 10 bags Sunday! It is in a different bag than what I got last summer? Still says it is silca free, carribean sand.

Hope everyone can get theirs if they need it!

Also for those of you looking to get it out of the area, I don't want to get involved in the shipping/flaming, so I will just lead you guys with a tip I got. I talked to someone at Sharon Nursery in Mainville OH (513) 398-1008. They carried it last year, that is where I got mine last year. They said they would be getting it the first week of April. Not sure if they will ship it, but they may be more willing to work with you than HD? Not sure just an idea!

Thanks

Where in Home Depot is that sand located [section]? Maybe they carry it in New York since HD is a national chain and they keep the same stuff everywhere. Is the $4.99 price per bag or what? Any special treatments I have to give it to added it to a new aquarium? Thanks for your time.

Southdown should be in the gardening / landscaping section of Home Depot, in the sheltered outdoor area. Look down low for decorative gravel and masonry stuff. I think HDs on the East Coast tend to have it in stock but its harder to find farther West. So, there's a good chance you'll find it in NY. Since HDs are everywhere, if it's not at the first one you go to, just try looking in the one the next town over  There is no treatment needed before adding to the aquarium. If anything, it could be soaked in tank water for a while to help seed the super fine particles with bacteria which will weigh them down.

Not all HD's carry this stuff. I called around to over 20 HD's and only 3 carry it. This one does, the one on Ridge Ave in Cincinnati, and the one in Hamilton OH. Nothing in Dayton area. I didn't check in Columbus. If you call around make sure it is a 50lb bag, the 40lb bags most HD's carry is best sand, and not for aquarium use.

BTW the HD SKU # IS :

SKU
578-819

Calling the HD's and asking them if they have that particular SKU # in stock might save someone a long drive or two.

that skew number does not necessarily mean southdown. It is a "general" skew for playsand at home depot. Be careful if you want to order playsand with that skew. You have to be very specific with what kind you want.
