Several years back I bought a couple of Energy Savers Unlimited metal halide pendants used. They are 175w and 5500K bulbs. My question is can I put 6500K bulbs in these pendants or am I stuck at 5500K? Also, are two of these too much for a 29gallon long tank (36X16X12.5) I also have four NO 36" Coralife 50/50 (6000k/Actinic) bulbs, so I could mix these in as well if needed. Thanks for any input.

As long as you are using 175W bulb, you are fine. You can use any color temp rating bulbs on the market. I don't know if there are any 14000K for 175W, but I think there are 10,000K for that wattage MH.

The 175W MH pendant is not overkill for your tank, depends on what you want to put in it. Since your fixture is pendant, you can raise it higher if you feel the lighting is too strong. NO lights will no longer be necessary if you have 175MH.
