I have been shoppin around for another tank and I had a guy tell me at an LFS that 85 gallons tend to be weak and leak. Has anyone out there no anything about this? I really want the 85 but if this is a problem I may go with the 75 instead. I am checkin out a 100 gallon too that is 48x24. These tanks are goin on Iron Stands.

I've NEVER heard of that. Why an 85 and not anything larger, eh?

I have worked in the pet business off and on for over 10 years and I have never heard of this.

Obviously don't go out and buy a used tank with the silicone pealing off of every edge. But as far as the new ones go it's news to me.

hi.
Mathematically speaking, 85 is a special number since it is neither a prime, or a pentagon number, or a hexagon number, so it interact with the gravity when filled with water, making the silicone glue weaker than usual, thereby making it prone to leak

sorry, but at least one of us (me, bangbang, or the guy in LFS) is full of muck. :)

dosent it seem odd that an 85 gal tank is made from 1/4" glass and my 90's are made from 1/2" for just 5gal more you need twice the thickness?? this seems strange to me and i would buy the bigger tanks with the thicker glass just incase.

IIRC, 90 gallons are usually 3/8". I've never heard of 85 gallon tanks, but it could have simply to do with the way the manufacturer labels their tank. I can't see why a 85 would be more prone to leak then any other similiarly sized tanks (given the same quality sealant).
