Hi :D

How can I tell if my anemone is going to split?

It looks like my BTA is starting to fold at the middle of both the top and bottom. Sort of like when a cell divides!

How long does it take? What can I expect next if it is dividing?

Thanks very much!

i remember when the first time my buble tip splitted, it developed a second mouth prior to splitting. The second time it splitted, it sort of strecthed itself out. I cant remeber exactly how long the process was, but from memory it's probably the 1 day only. Hope this helps...

Mine has split once in the two years I've had it. I had no indication, however, we left the lights out for three days while out of town, came back and had two BTAs.

Mine has had that sortof cleft down the side for months, but has not divided yet. I got excited when I noticed it, thinking it would divide again, but so far nothing.

I would pay close attention to its mouth, like the previous reply said.

You are right that they split down the middle like cells, and develop a second mouth prior to dividing. The one thing that seems to be the same for all BTA's is that they go into hiding for a few days while they divide. So, if it moves under a rock or out of the light, don't move it back.
Hope it divides for you!

Keep an eye on it too, I have seen a number of instances where a stress will occur causing an anemone to try splitting when it isn't entirely ready. If it stretches out and tears itself apart, make sure its completely torn apart after the second day. If it still has any parts still connected, its a smart idea to take a sharp knife or scissors and 'help it along'. It'll be much happier for it if its completely divided so it can readily heal back up.

I bought my BTA a month ago. It was almost colorless. One could easely see trought her tentacles.

She was very small also but started to expande nicelly right in the first day.

She developed very bright fluorescent green tips and this past weekend it divided in two.

She didn't move away to divide. She just shrinked a little for a day or two.

Now i have two clones. One moved lower in the tank and the other spent his first night bouncing back and forward before it settled (unfortunatly) behind the rock work.

Do you think that this one is dividing again?
