Do any of you have any experience with automatic feeders? I'm considering one to use on vacations, etc. Also, I'm usually only home for one feeding a day. I'd like to feed a couple of times a day with smaller amounts. I'm considering an Eheim model that's about $45. It has digital controls and supposedly keeps the food dry.

I'm also thinking about getting a battery operated air pump. I've lost power a couple of times this spring. Are there any that work well and switch on when the power goes out?

Thanks for your help!

I've never personally used an auto-feeder, but it would make sense to use on vacation. I've wanted to get one for a while but I've never done it yet. Normally I ask someone to come over and check the tanks every day and while there they also feed the tank.

Here's a pretty good article written by Richard Durso about Disaster Readiness where he talks about using battery powered air pumps: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/ ... eature.htm

Thanks, liquid. I was actually looking into a generator as well, so the article was very helpful.

As far as the feeder goes, I usually do have someone come over to check on my tank, but I would feel better if I didn't have to rely on this person (not a fish keeper) to feed the fish.
