This was a hot topic a couple of years back. After reading much discussion
about it, and Rob Toonen's analysis of particle size, I went to my local Home Depot and bought a few bags.

I havn't thought about it since.

The other day I was at H.D. browsing the garden dept. and saw a skid of S.D. (southdown tropical play sand from the carribean). It looked like the same stuff I bought, except on the bag it says:"not recommended for aquarium use"

Is this not the same sand available 2yrs. ago :?: If not, what changed :?:

The label. Remember, we live in a litigious society, Pamela, and they have this need to keep their butts covered. Other than that, there's really no difference that I'm aware of.

Yup, the sand is identical. The label was added either 1) Due to pressure from companies like Carib Sea, or 2) to prevent lawsuits in case someone has a problem in their tank.

No one but the execs at Southdown know the real reason. :?: :?: :?:
