Kalkwassar vice B-Ionic Calcium buffer system

I currently use the B-Ionic Calcium buffer system and have been thinking about trying Calcium Hydroxide (Kalkwassar). But after doing some research, I have found both products do the same thing, maintaining calcium concentration and alkalinity. So my question is, is the Kalkwassar more benificial vice the two part B-Ionic?

i think it boils down to tank size,coral uptake, and wallet size :wink:

the bionic gets way more expensive to use as your water volume goes up

also-if your Ca uptake is high-you may need to supplement w/kalk, or a Ca reactor anyway-the bionic can only add so much, if both parts are added-to keep the proper ionic balance it's designed for

so in a nut shell...if B-Ionic can not sustain the proper level needed, then use Kalk to sustain it at the level required.

just make sure you monitor the relative levels of Ca, alk, and pH-to make sure the relative balances don't get out of whack

most folks w/larger tanks almost always end up going w/a reactor though, once the corals start to really take off-just fyi :wink:

well..this is just for a 60 gal...no need for a reactor for such a small size.

i use kent tech CB (equivalent to b ionic) every other day and add 1 liter of kalk mix to the tank every morning. it really depends on what your coral load is. each product has advantages that the other might not.
