How can i stop my clown fish from stealing my anemone`s food, every time i try to feed it with its lance fish or cockles they just pull it from its tentacles.
Hi Jimbob. Welcome to reefs.org. In a nutshell, you can't. How much do you try to give it at one time? Do you do it at the same time the fish are being fed? Have you tried giving the fish that irresistable live food (mysis, or Selcon-soaked brine) to distract them for a bit, or put in several bits so the anemone gets a few at least?
Also, try checking our library for information: http://www.reefs.org/library
And wetwebmedia has an entire set of FAQ's dedicated to anemone feeding.
As SM mentioned I use food to bribe/distract the others away from some of my corals that I target feed. I give the two peppermint shrimp big enough chunks to keep them busy while the corals finish eating.
Do you have room to place a basket or container over the anemone? Maybe a container with a bunch of holes drilled in it, or a plastic basket would work to keep the other stuff off of him while he eats?
It doesn`t seem to matter how many chunks or what food types i use the clown`s always get to it before he has a chance to devour his food, how long does it take for an anemone to eat its food? I think i`ll try the covering method if i still dont get any joy. Thanx for your help guys.
