I just talked to my LFS about a copperbanded butterfly. He told me that they do better in pairs. I have never heard that these fish are social with each other. Any opinions?

I have never kept two but agree with you that IMO these fish should not be kept together. A word of caution most, butterflys, tangs, triggers and angels come from the Philippines and Indonesia and are caught with cyanide which also destroys everything on the reefhead. Make sure your LFS sells you one from one of the many other countries that offer them. Or go to a MAC certified net caught vendor which you can find here www.aquariumcouncil.org
Thank you for asking.
Thanks for the advice. There is quite a lot of cyanide poisoned fish out there. I actually have been diving in the Philipines. I was a wasteland. The corals and sponges were quite abundant though. You would not believe the fish these people were eating. They caught and dried fish that we would only use as ornamental fish.
May be there are worse things than fish collecting for aquaria.
