Question about Iwasaki 250w 65k bulbs

Are Iwasakis pulse or probe start, or does it matter. I am ordering my MH setup tomorrow, and have not been able to figure this out. I don't want to limit myself to much, so should I get the pulse start ballats, for possible changes down the road, or is probe start ok?

Hi Highrpm, eye ballast are for use with Iwasaki 6500k m/h bulbs only. Standard m/h ballast are also capable of powering Iwasaki 6500k m/h bulbs. Hope this help. Ralphyhp.

What is considered a standard MH ballast? Probe or pulse start? What is the iwasaki 65k?

EYE (Iwasaki) lamps are probe start. However, in general they will fire on a pulse start ballast. I read somewhere that they ignition lead and the main might arc outside of the arc-tube, but have never actually witnessed it, or heard of it happening. That surely doesn't mean that is can't, or won't, just that i have never seen it. I would recommend other ballasts before the Pulse obviously, but if its all you have.....

Actually, IceCap and other makers of MH ballast have version os their ballast specially for Iwasaki bulbs. I don't mean to make it look like a dealer post [since I'm not], but I read of that from a few sites, but the only one that I can remember right now is www.saltwaterconnection.com, under their dry goods section look for the lighting sub-section.

but only if they are the new "HQI" version IC ballast. the older ballasts were specifically tuned for each application.
