My clowns laid eggs-Pics

Hi all of you
Finally my ocellaris clowns laid eggs!They have been in my reef tank for four years, living in a Heteractis crispa that is with me for twelve years(that´s right!).
Have you got any ideia of the possibility of raising them without rotifers?
I have read something about it in Wilkersons book.
Anyway, this is a very happy day for me...

What other fish do you have in there? Have you got a separate fry tank set up yet?

it is a 100 gal tank, with lots of corals and some fishes:
1 P. hepatus
1 Z. flavescens
2 A. ocellaris
1 P. splendidus(mandarin)
2 P. kaudneri


I do not have another tank set up yet, but I plan on doing that

I agree, once they start breeding, they're unlikely to stop. If you have any questions, or need help with searches let us know.

Oh yes, we have among our numbers one JeremyR, who, if I recollect correctly, has a number of clownfish fry that are about 18-19 days old. I'm still waiting for the "Daddy changing diapers" pictures!

Do you have any ideia where can I found something about feeding the larvae with dry food?

We tried feeding our true perc babies dry food, and it failed miserably. The book does say ocellaris are one of the better choices for feeding that way.. but rotifers is still the tried & true, and it's the only thing that worked for us with the true percs.

what dry food did you used?

We tried the smallest golden pearls, we tried some liquid invert type foods... they just didn't eat it and died when the yolk sac was used up.

FWIW, rotifers aren't really that hard to grow. I don't know how readily available cultures are in europe, but we had a good culture going in about a week from dry eggs purchased from florida aqua farms.

It`s a Heteractis crispa.
I bought it 12 years ago, I feed her only every 15 days, otherwise she will grow too big.

if, for whatever reason, rotifer culturing is not an option-you may want to try egg yolk suspension

take the yolk of a freshly hard boiled egg-mash a small piece to a paste, mix up in a small vial of salt water-very thoroughly, and feed w/an eyedropper, sparingly, but often

i had some limited 'success' using this w/damsel fry
