perculas known to be jumpers?

i bought a pair about 6 weeks ago, and i get home
and find the male on the floor yesterday. female is fine,
all fish are fine and water param's ok.
i didnt think they were known to jump out.

I never had one jump, but I have had 2 go into the powerhead.

After my dogfaced puffer died from jumping out, I have no doubt that any fish has the potential to be a jumper.

Twice soon after I added my ocellaris to the tank one jumped into the overflow and turned up in the sump. Hasn't happened in a long time, though.

its like he had to be trying to jump out, there is one opening,
about 2" wide and 10" long. its got powerhd cords, heater cords, etc.
not a big opening.
i guess i'll have to cover that up too.

I had a maroon jump recently, after doing some research and checking I'm pretty sure it was because of a stray voltage...I'll be using grounding probes from now on...stray voltage seems to me to affect fish on an individual basis, but I could be wrong about that...

I do happen to have an enclosed hood, so if she has tried to do the carpet dance, she has been impeeded....

obviously most fish CAN jump, but percs are HARDCORE jumpers....however, there may have been some pecking order "picking on" going on if the female was chasing the male around and got him to take the ultimate leap.....just an idea....chris

I found my male perc in my overflow once a really long time ago, not sure if he got sucked in (I added eggcrate after that) or if he jumped in !

stray current either in a sump or main tank is a serious problem. i have seen corals die as a result of this as numerous fish also.. jumping out, around, shrimp, other inverts, all caused by stray current, and it doesn't take much either.... be sure to ground your system..all of it.. IMO.

I had one jump just last week, watched her do it. Landed behind the tank in the dust. Scooped her up with a net then swished her off in the tank. She's fine. It was the first time in two years. I do plan to add a screen over the back 2" my hood doesn't cover.

Well I just went to feed my grow out tank of false percs and one is missing. I only had 9 left in that tank so I counted and sure enough one is missing. I have no LR in the tank and the overflow box has a sponge so theres no way he got sucked into the sump or is hiding anywhere. he must have been a jumper I guess, too much crap behind that tank to start looking for a rather small 1/4" perc. Now that I think of it unless 2 days ago during maitnance when I turned the return pump off he got back siphoned into the pump then made into swiss cheese when restarted !! Who knows.... poor little fellow...

I have a male Perc do the leap also.
I have noticed as i read the threads that there seems to more of a theme with the males. 8O

I had a young male perc jump out of the tank and had one of my cardinals jump into the surface skim box connected to my skimmer. Luckally we saw him in time and he didn't starve to death or stress too much. He was almos the same width as the box.
