I am thinkign abotu adding a polyp mushrrom (name??) to my 3 week old tank, i only have flourescent lighting but i do have a strong current, any opinions on this?
Both polyps and mushrooms are very hardy corals that don't demand very much. Can you give us more details on your system? There are many types of fluorescents.
Also, a 3 week old tank might be too early to start adding any fish or corals. Make sure your tank has fully cycled (ammonia and nitrite have "zeroed" out) before you proceed.
FWIW, my colony of yellow polyps has never done well. About 2 years ago or so, I purchased a colony with maybe 30-40 polyps, and they have slowly dwindled down to under 5. Even with regular feedings. Can't say why.
Mushrooms are a good choice if you have sufficient flourescent lighting and acceptable water quality paramaters in a 3 week old tank.
High flow rate could cause the polyps to separate and reestablish in lower flow areas of the tank which could be a good thing. However, not too high a flow with mushrooms IME.
