Do you currently dose strontium? If so, do you believe it helps with coral growth? Or, do you think it is not needed?

Some have argued that Strontium is poisonous, and retards coral growth, and is not needed. Others feel it helps accelerate sps growth rates, and is necessary for coral health. Some european reefers swear by it. How do you feel?

hi.
Keep in mind that you are asking for opinions. Very few of us can actually give you a comparison (with and without).

My opinion is that with regular water change, there is little different, if any, unless you overdose it with 100X the NSW concentration (the coral probably will still be OK).

Yes, what I ask for is opinion, (and I respect that). Unfortunately, very little is scientifically known about the effects that strontium (desirable or otherwise) has on aquaria.

I agree with Robin, if you do regular WC's, there is prolly no need to dose strotium. If you test for it and find that your tank needs some to be added, then by all means, go ahead and add it. And let us know!

I don't dose it, and I don't check for it. I do weekly water changes so I assume that's enough since all my corals have always been fine.

On the tanks with reactors, we don't add anything. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Well, water changes. On the non-reactor tanks we use b-ionic, and it does have some of that stuff in it.. I'm not sure at what levels, but we do not add anything else on top of it.
