Feeding an anemone

1) Ok, my bubble tip looks good and my percula loves the thing. Yesterday I tried to stick a piece of shrimp in there. When I did the anemone took it and started to close but the freakin clown took it out. :evil: Tried again and he did the same thing. Any Ideas on what to do? Do I need to use the target feeding stuff?

2) Also Tonight I purchased a new tiny clown to try to pair with the one that I have. Ive got him in a cup with holes in it in order to introduce them slowly. Any tips on how long to wait or any steps to take in the direction?

This is the hard part...when your clown tries to steal the food from the anemone, or just clean house, whatever, I typically would distract the clown, with a stick, turkey baster, whatever...if you have a mean clown, like my maroon, this will be particularly effective, as he/she is attacking the feeding stick repeatedly, the bubbletip should have time to swallow. If you have a lethargic anemone this could take a few minutes of your attendance, but with time the little guy should become more responsive to direct feeding and gobble it up greedily. Good luck!

I usually put several small peices in at once, My clowns will steal some but the anemone will be able to sneak one or two in.

Feeding your clowns first at far corner of the tank seems to help mine. I too cut up shrimps in small pieces to make sure some makes into the anemone's mouth.

Any tips for the introduction of the 2 clowns?

As long you don't see the one already in the tank constantly banging on the container of the new, you should be OK. Besides, clownfish are easy to separate if you find things aren't working out.

If things don't seem right with the Percula clowns, you may want to consider getting a Clarkii. In my experience, they've shown the strongest symbiotic relationship with the bubble-tips I've had. I could throw in a piece of shrimp (that was too large for the fish to eat) anywhere in the tank and they would always grab it and feed it to the anemone themselves. It's still one of the most memorable events I've ever witnessed in my tank.

My percula is in love with the bubble but she sure dosent feed it. Yesterday I fought her out of it and fed it some shrimp. I also introduced the little male clown yesterday and they are getting along so far.(knock on wood)The only weird thing was this morning the little one was up in the corner of the tank. When I turned on the lights he went down into the tank so maybe the new home being so dark at night freaked him out. We will see...

Keep a close eye on the one that was swimming in the corner. Sometimes, that's an early indication of a clownfish disease like Brookynella. Clownfish and damsels are very susceptible to this. I don't want to worry you, but I know you have at least 2 other clowns in there.

OK. There is only one other clown in there. I had two black Percs but gave them to my brother to put in his 15 gal Nano. They were cool.

just curious whether your clows are hand raised or wild? i have hand raised and am curious if they would take to a bta. i've heard that wild clows take to anemones more readily- or it could've been the other way around :? just wonderin

I dont think it matters. Mine was in a bubble coral ever since she was put in the tank. Then I added the BTA and she was all over it! Now she wont even leave it for more than 5 seconds. Nobody accept the new clown is allowed near it either. Oh yeah they are both tank raised. :?
