I have a all glass aquarium with a tidepool sos overflow box that keeps breaking siphon. so I took one step forward and put a float switch on my main tank to avoid overflowing. one step ahead of the game i thought, well i was wrong I work third shift and just got home to find my main pump shut off (like it was supposed to), but last night got exceptionaly cold in my house and my heaters are in my sump. when i got home I found my Koran angel, yellow tang, coral beauty and cleaner shrimp, dead with the exception of my shrimp all of these I have had for over a year or two and grew quite attached to them. All my corals are sucked in very tight so theres no telling what will make it. The good news is my clown and peppermint shrimp look healthy still. I just had to tell someone thanks for reading.

Heh, sorry to hear that. That's quite some steps back.

You may want to consider redundancy from now on......

Sorry to hear about that. One question since they apparently died due to temperature (heat) related conditions does your house not have ambient heating? If you lived far north this time of year keeping the thermostat set at least to 70 would have been enough for fish not to die so suddenly. I can't see that kind of wipeout unless temperature dipped very low - meaning also what was rest of house set to? I have the benefit of living where it's warm 8 months of the year and my heaters almost never kick in except during dec/jan/feb, even then with thermostat on 70 tank temperature has yet to fall below 76 degrees - usually a steady 79-80.

thanks for the concern, heat is my only guess at the moment. but now that you mentioned it my house shouldnt have gotten that cold. so maybe I should look into the mystery a bit more, does anyone have any suggestions on what else it could have been? do you think loss of oxygen could have been a factor the tank could have only been off a maximum of 12 hours.
