I just recently purchased a Sprite TDS meter. I checked my water after being run through my Maxxima Hi-S 35GPD RO unit and then checked my tap water and got the following results:

tap= 034
RO= 001

Is it just me or is that too low of a number for the tap water? Shouldn't it be something like 150 - 300? Does this thing need to be calibrated? Did I get a broke meter(ebaY)?

Thanks.....

Not necessarily. If you're still unsure, you can get the 800ppm calibration solution and test it from there.

You can make the solution yourself if you have the right equipment, but for most people, you can order the calibration solution for a few bucks if you only want a few fl. oz. If your meter can do ppt, you can use your saltwater with known density....

Don't bother with NIST-certified calibration fluid since most TDS meters can't take advantage with it. Get the regular cheap fluid instead.

Oh, check the online hardware vendors... they will carry the fluid if they sell the meter. If the shipping charge is a concern, you can check with your local hydroponics shop as well as home-brew places. They also carry these solutions.
