Shrimb babies

Can anyone shed some light on this....we have a cleaner shrimp in our 40 gallon that appers to be carrying eggs. We do not have any other shrimp in there - nor have we ever....I know very little about cleaner shrimp..lol...but all we have in there is a cleaner shrimp, a flasher wrasse and a Flame Angel.

I have read that they can store sperm for a while.

that has to be it then - cause we have had that shrimp about 8 or 9 months..by chance do you know how long before the eggs hatch..or where I can reserch if there is anything special that we need to do?

There is nothing you need to do, it is very difficult to raise the babies. I think a few poeple have, but it is very time and labor intensive.

I don't remember how long the it takes for the eggs to hatch, they hatch at night though. The newly hatched shrimp will make an excellent treat for your fish. I suspect you flasher wrasse will be in heaven for a night!

so then I guess I will be able to tell by the size of my flasher's tummy when the eggs have hatched..lol

If you have the species I suspect you have (Lysmata amboinensis, the skunk cleaner shrimp), then you can get another and they will instantly pair. These shrimp are simultaneous hermaphrodites and will both carry eggs and fertilize each other. With sufficient food, they will release larvae (coral food!) every two weeks or so.

ive got 2 of the skunk cleaners, they are constantly breeding.
eggs hatch out probably once a week, and the tank looks like there is
a blizzard in there, there is so much babies.
ive got young shrimp in there 1/2-5/8" long, but thats as big as ive ever seen them get.
the fish love them! and my anenome crab, he stuffs himself.
