I do have a shrimp that my yellow watchman goby whores around with so perhaps that could be the culprit of my clicking.

You have a pistol shrimp then. They form a bond called mutualism.

i got punched by a 3 inch long peacock mantis right between the thumbnail and knuckle. it hurt for a few minutes and the area that got hit was numb for half an hour but nothing serious. i don't think they have their .22 caliber punch strength until full grown.
